New Bedford, Mass Drug Abuse Info

According to neighborhoodscout.com New Bedford, Mass. has a population of 95,072 and a crime index of 9 – 100 being the safest.  If you lived in Massachusetts you would have a 1 in 214 chance of becoming a victim of a violent crime and if you lived in New Bedford, Mass. you would have a 1 in 81 chance of becoming a victim of a violent crime.  The FBI collects information from 17,000 local law enforcements agencies and that is where they get the figures for these statements.  Just recently New Bedford has had 3 murders, 69 rapes, 272 robberies and 819 assaults.  For every one thousand resident there are 50 of them that will be a victim.  New Bedford has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes.  According to neighborhoodscout.com New Bedford is number 49 in the top 100 most dangerous cities to live in.

In March, 2012 Central Falls Police discovered a drug selling operation and because of this investigation they arrested a 32 year old woman, her son a 17 year old and her boyfriend a 30 year old.  When they entered the apartment they found crack cocaine, Marijuana, all kinds of packaging material and some cash.  They were being held until a bail hearing and the young man is appearing in family court.

Barnstable-hyannis.patch.com reported in January of 2012 that the Barnstable Police Narcotics detectives and members of the Bristol County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit ended a three month investigation.  This lead to the arrest of two men that had connections with a heroin and cocaine distribution ring.  These two men were reputed New Bedford gang members and they had extensive criminal records involving drugs and firearm charges.  When they were arrested they had quantities of heroin and cocaine on them hidden inside their undergarments.  A Mashpee Police drug sniffing K-9 assisted in locating the drugs.  The street value of the drugs seized is about $2,000.  They were held overnight on $10,000 bail.  Both suspects were arrested in a 2009 federal gang investigation in Bristol County according to the Police. Let’s hope that the folks whom these criminals got hooked on drugs got into one of the Boston drug rehabs.

Those are the kinds of things happening in New Bedford, Mass.  Drugs absolutely take over our lives.  The mother leading her son into a drug career is not very palatable.  The gang members continuing to so criminal distributing of these drugs.  This goes on in every city in this country.  One answer may be to not do drugs to being with.  It may come down to that; each of us being responsible for our own actions.  If you know someone who wants to get off drugs get them to an inpatient treatment center or one of the heroin rehabs where they can detox and withdraw in a safe and natural way.  Something can be done about it.
