Marijuana and Heroin in Chicago, Illinois

Just this last year there was one of the biggest marijuana busts in the history of Chicago Police Department.  The detectives said they were watching a certain suspect because he was going to several meeting that indicated some drug dealings.  They stopped him for questioning and found one bale of marijuana in his car.  This 35 year old lived in Lyons.  The detectives followed him to his home and that is where they discovered 5,525 pounds of marijuana.  That’s right there were 224 more bales of marijuana stashed in his home.  This is a street value of more than $20 million.  The Chicago Police Department detectives kept the investigations up and found that this 35 year old had loaded these bales into his home through a printing company warehouse that was attached to the back of his house.  They also concluded that these drugs originated in Mexico and they were packaged for distribution once they arrived in Chicago.  This young man was charged with the highest-level felony, a Class X, for manufacturing and delivery of cannabis.  He could be jailed up to 30 years.  A high price to pay to deal in drugs.

Chicago residents know that dried flowers, seeds and leaves of the Indian hemp plant are called marijuana.  “Cannabis” describes any of the different drugs that come from Indian hemp like marijuana and hashish.  Doesn’t matter what the name of it is this drug is a hallucinogen which is a substance that distorts how the mind perceives the world around it.  And this drug is affecting the communities in and around Chicago. There is a chemical inside cannabis known as “THC”.  It all depends on the strength of the marijuana you have as to the amount of THC it has.  Now we know that marijuana is plentiful in Chicago.  The hemp plant was grown for use as a hallucinogen more than 2,000 years ago.  This plant is where the cannabis drugs like marijuana and hashish are made from.  Cannabis can contain well over 400 different chemicals with the main one being THC.  The amount of THC will determine the strength of the drug.  When this plant is grown the weather and soil determine the percentage of THC in the plant.  Developers are now using modern farming techniques for strains of cannabis that have much higher levels of THC.  1% in 1974 and 4% in 1994 was the levels of THC.  In 2008, levels reached 9.6%.  These drugs came from Mexico so we do not know where they were grown.  It is only a good thing that they are off the streets.
